General Information
Horley Scout Camp Site is tucked away in a delightful part of North Oxfordshire, three and a half miles from Banbury and Junction 11 of the M40 motorway. Access to the site is through a quarter of a mile of tall pine trees. These open out onto eleven and a half acres of well drained grass land surrounded by woods and a disused railway embankment, providing a totally safe environment away from roads, traffic and habitation. In total the site is 35 acres.
Wood fires are encouraged, with altar fires for cooking, a ground fire practice and trial area and a banked fire circle. Pallet wood is in plentiful supply. There are water taps around the site, and a toilet block with sinks, flushing toilets and hot showers.
The campsite is owned by Banbury District Scout Council and is run by the resident Camp Warden John (Snowy) Hirst.
Facilities
Flushing toilets.
Water stand pipes around camping areas.
Hot showers.
Well-equipped kitchens.
Several huts.
NO DUSTBINS - participants must take all rubbish away with them.
Local Amenities
There is a Tesco which can be found by turning right at the 4th roundabout after leaving the M40 on the way to the site. A 24 hour petrol station can also be found here.
Directions
Take the M40 to J11.
Take the A422 towards Banbury.
Continue to follow the A422 over ~5 roundabouts. It is well signposted.
At the ~6th roundabout turn right, still following the A422 towards Wroxton. Again, it is well signposted.
Go straight over the next roundabout, then left at the traffic lights, still following the A422 and signposts towards Wroxton.
You pass through the village of Drayton, and then enter Wroxton. In the village the road makes a sharp turn to the right. Immediately after this take the right hand turn signposted to Horley. This is a single track lane.
The entrance to the site is on the left, immediately after the right hand turn signpoted for Hanwell.
The entrance is not that easy to see - if you reach Horley you have gone too far; turn around and head back towards Wroxton.
Drive down the track to the carpark at the end. Please park tightly as there is not a great deal of space. Immediately on the left as you enter the parking area is the warden's hut - access must be left so that he can get his car out.

SatNav
OX15 6AU - this is the postcode of the Warden's house, which is on the site, so should take you directly there. However, there have been reports of SatNavs incorrectly advising people to take the left turn before the site entrance.
In general we do not recommend the exclusive use of Satellite Navigation systems to find LRP sites, as they rarely have a post code and the entrance to the site may be difficult to find. We therefore strongly recommend that you also have a copy of the directions and map above in case your SatNav leads you astray.
